Applying Essential Oils
neat = undiluted...

Quite a controversial subject with aromatherapists and massage therapists.

Applying essential oils neat has been studied and prescribed by physicians in France for decades. It's named the French model of Aromatherapy. Oils may be applied neat or undiluted to the skin and even ingested.

A French cosmetic chemist, Dr. Gattefosse, is credited with reintroducing essential oils and aromatherapy to the world around 1910.

About ninety percent of all aromatherapy books highly caution or warn you against applying oils neat. These therapists follow the English model of aromatherapy which means to dilute a small amount of essential oils in a base oil to use for massage. There is almost zero chance of side effects to the skin this way. Very safe.

Here is the BIG thing: Use ONLY therapeutic grade, 100% unadulterated, super duper pure essential oils. Please just read that again!

There should be no doubt as to what you are putting on your skin. Check out our Essential Oil Starter Kit here

Let me give you this scenario:

Lavender (Lavendula Augustifolia) is an excellent essential oil to apply to 1st and 2nd degree burns. A high grade Lavender oil contains a lot of linalol, which is soothing and helps to regenerate skin. It contains almost NO camphor, which burns the skin.

Can you imagine what would happen if you apply an adulterated oil which is often spiked with synthetic linalol and often contains 30% camphor. You would increase the burn! Not good.

I will however also caution you about using oils neat, simply because you are still learning and don't have enough practice yet!

The very best way to start using oil neat:

Apply your remedies to the feet: On the bottom of your feet your skin is generally thicker than on the rest of your body. There are no hair follicles and plenty of sweat glands, oils are absorbed fast, but with little chance of irritation.

What about allergic reactions to pure essential oils? Since ingredients in pure oils are absorbed and metabolized by the body similar to vitamins and minerals you ingest, they should cause no reactions. Redness or allergic reactions are usually created by synthetic ingredients in the body being rejected or cleansed out.

Before you start applying oils neat to the skin, STOP using perfumed and synthetic body creams, lotions, facial creams, spray perfumes etc.. There is too much evidence of our skin absorbing and our body storing these horrible ingredients. STOP putting them on your skin. You have too many natural alternatives:
